The small Baha'i community of Mount Gambier gathered today to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the faith's founder Bahá’u’lláh.
The faith focuses on equality and the oneness of humanity, regardless of religion or ethnicity - something as relevant today as it was when the faith first begun.
The Baha'i community was today joined with like-minded members of the wider community, many of whom do not follow the Baha'i faith, for a musical celebration.
Event organiser Hoveida Saberi was very pleased with the turn-out, speaking of the importance of community to the Baha'i people. "Our responsibility in life is to improve our society. So what Bahai's like to participate in are community building activities, and that's exactly what this is."

Local music teacher and friend of the Baha'i community Tara Gladigau lent her musical skills to the event, working alongside Hoveida's daughter Sahra Rowhani-Farid and local musician Michael Walsh, to present several songs linked to the Baha'i faith in both Persian and English. "It was such an honour to be asked to be involved in this celebration. It's so beautiful to have so many people from different ethnic groups and religions come together to learn and to celebrate, that's what this is all about - unity."
