Earlier this week, the State Minister for Employment Kyam Maher arrived in town to announce the State Government's intentions to loan $200,000 to the struggling Mount Gambier Community RSL to help it through it's current financial crisis.
The announcement wasn't without political jabs though, with the Minister stating that they're doing "what Troy Bell wouldn't do for his community."
"While the local member is nowhere to be seen, Labor is ensuring that this valued organisation is given every chance to restructure and continue with the valuable contribution and support it provides to Mount Gambier and surrounds. Labor is doing what Troy Bell wouldn't do for his community."
This isn't the first time the Mount Gambier-raised Kyam Maher has taken shots at Mr Bell, with the Minister recently joining Premier Jay Weatherill, Attorney-General John Rau, and Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis in calling for Bell to resign from his position as the Member for Mount Gambier following allegations of theft.
Speaking exclusively with Limestone Coast Community News, Mr Bell welcomed Mr Maher's announcement, but stated that the RSL was "too important a community asset to play politics with."
"As far as personal comments he has made towards me, I will let them go through to the keeper. The one thing that I will never compromise in politics, a campaign or in life, is my integrity. My mum would always say “Integrity is the choice between what is convenient and what is right”. Maybe Mr Maher could stop playing politics and just do what is right."
Mr Bell also noted that being a senior Minister of the currently elected Labor State Government, Mr Maher "has the ability to support our community at this time and I thank him for that."
