Minister Kyam Maher has today visited Mount Gambier to announce the State Government intends to provide the Mount Gambier Community RSL with a $200,000 loan to help it as it works through current financial issues.
The minister today met with members of the RSL board to discuss the future of the club, and how the State Government can ensure the club continues for "centuries to come".
"This is a club that's at the heart of the Mount Gambier community. Locals know that the Club and its members often bend over backward to help our community."
President Bob Sandow thanked the State Government for their contribution, and members of the committee who have worked tirelessly over the past two weeks.
"Knowing that that $200,000 is there whether we spend it or not - that's another thing, but at least we know it's there if something happens and we need to do something about it."
"We've got a lot of talking to do as well, there will be changes here. Anything that we don't need, we're not paying for anymore."
Minister Maher also acknowledged Limestone Coast Community News for bringing the financial issues of the club to their attention through the exclusive coverage of the situation on this page.
