From the Archives: Mount Gambier Doctor and the Murder Mystery

Neil Muir, 25, was brutally murdered in North Adelaide in 1979 In 1980, a doctor based in Mount Gambier was charged with the brutal murder of a man in North Adelaide. Dr Peter Millhouse was a medical practitioner, formerly of Elizabeth Street in Mount Gambier. "The Family" Between 1979 and 1983, the South Australian public were coming to terms with a series of murders which would soon be referred to as "The Family Murders". In total, five men were murdered by a close-knit group of men from Adelaide known as "The Family" who were known to abduct, drug, sexually abuse, murder and mutilate young men in the Adelaide area. Neil Muir Neil Muir was the second victim, with his body being found on the 28th of August, 1979. Two fishermen spotted a plastic bag floating on the Port River, which seemed to contain a human foot, and promptly reported it to the police, who eventually located the dismembered body parts of Mr Muir. Penola Rapist Brenton James Ross Jailed

A Penola man who was convicted of raping and blackmailing a 14-year-old girl, and then handed a suspended sentence by the judge, has had the suspended sentence set aside and will now spend at least the next 3 years and 8 months in prison. Brenton James Ross was 20 when he started communication with the victim. He and the victim shared naked photos of themselves, before Ross used these to blackmail the victim into having sex with him on two occasions. In July of this year , Judge Barratt sentenced Ross to 3 years and 6 months, but decided to suspend the sentence based on the defendant's alleged intellectual disability, young age, and lack of previous offending. Since the case was made public here on Limestone Coast Community News, many young women and girls came forward and presented evidence that he had been harassing and abusing them with sexual intent over social media for some time, information that was passed on to Police. BREAKING: Mount Gambier RSL Faces Closure

The Mount Gambier Community RSL have released a statement regarding the very real likelihood that their doors will close within days, unless they receive a cash injection from the community to keep it trading. They are asking anyone in a position to help to contact the RSL on 87258181. The statement in full, is as follows. "The Mount Gambier Community RSL is in severe financial difficulty and there is a real likelihood that the RSL will be forced to close its doors in the matter of days if substantial funding is not forthcoming from the support of the local community. The RSL is urgently seeking a cash injection to be able to keep trading. Over recent months, the RSL has been able to put steps in place to ensure that it is able to sustain a profitable working business however it is the short term that greatly concerns us..
